Welcome to the online Nevada Administrator Forum

To make it easy for you to get started in seeing the overview of the conversation we are having on our work this year entitled “The Journey to 21st Century Transformational Leadership Skills for 21st Century Student Outcomes: The Linear and Nonlinear Path to Ahas”, which is an inner and outer learning journey for co-creational school change…
go to the “Readings and Resources” section and read:

  • “Leslie’s Theory of Change: 21st Century Leadership for 21st Century Student
  •    Outcomes”
  • “Leadership and the Inner Journey: an Interview with Parker Palmer”
  • “Why Change is so Challenging for Schools” – Dennis Sparks, NSDC, interview with Peter Senge (NSDC Journal of Staff Development, Summer 2001) http://www.nsdc.org/publications/getDocument.cfm?articleID=471
  • (mentioned in “Leslie’s “Theory of Change”)
  • 21st Century Student Outcomes (The Powerful Vision)

You can also see Jeff Wallock’s personal thread. Jeff is a VP in Elko County.
Jeff wanted his own thread so he could focus on his personal leadership journaling process. Jeff has shared his questions he has been reflecting on. He started with “What is my leadership style?” to figure out how to add value to his schools new paradigm of PLC implementation, and morphed to “Should I be asking what kind of leader should I be? (after accessing some resources like “Parker Palmer’s interview”).

I explained why both of those questions are important – understanding “our box” of what makes us tick, the “what is” (“What is my leadership style?), to be able to evolve to “out of the box” we are in, so we open to other viewpoints and possibilities (“Should I be asking what kind of leader should I be?”).

The questions ala Senge in “Why Change is so Challenging for Schools” – Dennis Sparks, NSDC, interview with Peter Senge (NSDC Journal of Staff Development, Summer 2001) http://www.nsdc.org/publications/getDocument.cfm?articleID=471
is important for “directing energies”:

  • “What do I really care about?”
  • “What do I really want to create?” (p. 45)

These can help focus on “21st century student outcomes” (what we care about) – and thus “21st century leadership skills and schools” (what kind of leaders we want to be to co-create things such as systems and instruction to get the 21st century student outcomes).

I will be talking about “co-creating” – using everyone’s intelligence to create something new - through “Theory U” methodology (from MIT research coming out of the field of social technology). There is great “power” in creation and thus “choice”.

Please let Gary or I know if you have any questions as you participate on the Forum.
We would love to have you introduce yourself to the group, and as we proceed, share questions, comments and ahas. Having your own learning thread for your personal learning journey like Jeff to share your reflections, questions, comments and ahas will provide you with the maximum benefits because you will get facilitative feedback that will open some pathways in your journey. I personally have been journaling and have been facilitated by others over the past year and a half outside of the Forum, and now I truly have experienced transformational personal/leadership change. Therefore I am excited to bring this learning journey to the Forum and continue to learn with everyone else from the field of social technology as we embrace 21st century student outcomes.

Thank you!
